Sergio Olivares Sr. Retires After 40 Years

After more than 50 years of dedication to protecting IP rights in Mexico, Mr. Sergio Olivares Sr. is pleased to announce his retirement.

Mr. Olivares Sr. founded the Olivares & Cia. law firm 40 years ago and so although he will no longer work fulltime, he will continue to participate with the firm, in his new role as of counsel.

During the course of his distinguished career he has seen many positive changes in the world of IP protection. However, the firm’s philosophy and creativity towards IP protection, under Mr. Olivares Sr.’s direction, has remained little changed over the past 40 years and, as a result, Olivares & Cia. has become a leading force in IP protection in Mexico.

Mr. Olivares Sr. would like to thank each and every one of you that he and the firm have worked with over the years. It is because of you that we are lucky enough to have reached the many milestones we have.

Most importantly Mr. Olivares Sr. would like to convey that he feels humbled, honored, and privileged to have been able to have been so involved in changing and improving the system of IP protection in Mexico.

Although this announcement may seem a little sudden to many of you, in reality the transition has been five years in the making. And so it is with great pleasure that we also announce that Mr. Sergio L. Olivares Jr., whom many of you already know, will be going forward to serve as Chairman of the Management Committee of the firm, while continuing to concentrate on Trademark matters for our clients. He will handle the day-to-day administrative control of the firm, with the continued support of the other partners of the firm.
